Dr. J. Wesley Hertel began in the pastoral ministry as a 21 year old
seminary student when Bishop Richard C. Raines appointed him to the
Shirley Methodist Church in 1967. He was ordained a deacon at the
North Indiana Conference in Muncie, Indiana in 1968, and was ordained as
an Elder in the United Methodist Church and received as a Full Member of
the South Indiana Conference in Bloomington, Indiana in 1970.
He graduated with the Master of Divinity degree
from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1970, and
the Doctor of Ministry degree was conferred on him by Asbury Theological
Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky in 1980.
He has served as Senior Pastor of Mt. Auburn
United Methodist Church since 1990. Prior to coming to Mt.
Auburn he served Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, Indiana for
six years. He also has pastored United Methodist congregations
in Connersville (Grand Avenue) and Hagerstown, as well as Shirley.
His wife is Patricia Hertel. Together, they
are the proud parents of five children and seven grandchildren.
